Details of the Folie à Deux scenario? — Coil World
I can’t be 100% sure how legit it is. This comes from a source that’s been just before, but it’s kind of fun to believe that’s what Todd Phillips, Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga have in store for us with “Joker 2: Madness for Two.”
I wasn’t too keen on the idea of doing a sequel. It might make me change my mind. The legitimacy of what I’m about to post may lie in this “insider” claiming that Lady Gaga does NOT play Harley Quinn.
Of course, beware SPOILERS:
Some details about Joker 2… so the script has been circulating for a few weeks among people in the industry and some people around me have read it — here’s what I 100% know is in the script — Arthur Fleck (Joaquin) escapes from prison/asylum and goes wild before meeting Lady Gaga’s character (who is NOT Harley Quinn. I don’t know where the media got that from) who is also extremely disturbed… but in his own way. The dynamic between the two is not a simple romance. It’s more of a Tom & Jerry type situation. If that scenario is anything to go by, the movie is 50 times more violent than any other mainstream comic book movie we’ve seen. The body count is through the roof and the deaths are extremely gruesome. There are multiple beheadings, torture scenes, castration (!!!), bombs exploding, and a very CLOCKWORK ORANGE rape scene, with the victim eventually dying. The “Singing in the Rain” rape scene from A Clockwork Orange is the best way to describe the “musical” aspect of this film. It’s not a ‘La La Land’ musical, ‘A Star Is Born’ at all, and will bring out any traditional fans of the theater musical genre. Nor will it be the type of music they expect from Lady Gaga. I don’t want to spoil the ending for you, but let’s just say there isn’t much possibility for a third Joker movie. This movie is going to blow people away if it’s shot well. The storyline is shocking and doesn’t even look like a big budget franchise movie. No way this would get a PG13 rating. Let’s hope the studio doesn’t interfere too much.
It’s obvious that Phillips wants to push buttons, which is exactly what he did with “Joker” in 2019. How could this movie improve? Well, the above is definitely one way to do it.
Filming has not yet started on “Joker 2: Folie à Deux”. The first film took just 18 months to go from the green light to theatrical release worldwide. If they start shooting this one in the next few months, a fall 2023 release might be on the cards. Stay tuned.
