Northwood girls and Chatham Charter boys qualify for state basketball championship games

Pittsboro, North Carolina – Two Chatham County high school basketball teams are heading to NCHSAA basketball championship games next Saturday.

The No. 2 seeded Northwood Girls (30-1) are set to face No. 19 Western Region seed Enka (30-0) in the 3A Women’s Championship game of the NCHSAA. They handed No. 1 seed Terry Sanford (30-1) their first loss of the season, 51-50 at Southern Lee High School. The Enka Jets beat No. 4 seed North Davidson, 51-49, en route to Saturday’s championship game. The Jets started the playoffs 11-14 before racking up five straight upsets.

The No. 1-seeded Chatham Charter Boys (31-1) will face West Region No. 1 seeded Hayesville (22-5) in the NCHSAA Men’s Championship Game 1A . The Knights defeated Wilson, 59-42 at JH Rose High School. Hayesville beat second seed Winston-Salem Prep, 72-66.
