Queen’s Baton Commonwealth Games course in Prescot unveiled

The route for the Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay has been unveiled and will pass through Knowsley Safari Park and the new Shakespeare North Theatre.

Knowsley Council has announced the route the Birmingham 2022 Relay will take when visiting the region this summer.

After embarking on an epic journey through all 72 Commonwealth countries, the Queen’s Baton Relay is set to travel across England before culminating in the Opening Ceremony of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games on July 28, 2022.

What route will the relay take locally?

On Sunday July 17, the Queen’s Baton will begin the Knowsley leg of its journey at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park, Huyton, where it will be hosted by a number of local sports groups who will be holding displays and demonstrations.

The Baton will then travel in convoy to Knowsley Safari Park, where it will be ferried through the Foot Safari before heading into Prescot town centre.

Once in Prescot, The Baton will travel through the town centre, down Eccleston Street to the newly opened Shakespeare North Playhouse.

After a short journey through the Theater and Garden of Shows, the Queen’s Baton Relay will end its journey in Knowsley on Prospero Place with a special end-of-day celebration.

The Queen’s Baton – which contains a message from the Queen to the Commonwealth – will be carried by a team of Batonbearers, each with inspiring backgrounds and stories, including those named in recognition of their contributions to their local community, whether in the sport, education, arts, culture or charity.

It is bound to bring a real sense of excitement and community spirit and we hope to see fantastic turnout from local people along the route to celebrate this special time in our year as Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture”
