Shepparton Theater Arts Group seeks stage support

Ready to play: Members of the Shepparton Theater Arts Group (pictured at a past show, The sleepy chaperone) are ready to take the stage for Steel Magnolias ― but we need more people.

The hit Broadway play best known for becoming a classic 1989 film, Steel Magnolias comes to life in Shepparton.

Shepparton Theater Arts Group takes the play and runs with it, but before they stage the performance in October they need bodies.

Manager Dale Roberts said the team has been working hard since April, but new, returning or other interested people are needed.

“We want this production team to be just that – a team,” she said.

“It’s our number one priority, but we can also see great openness here for new people to join the business and gain experience while working with the core team.

“You might like to build a set, paint a wall, greet the audience, collect props and costumes, or any number of small tasks.”

An information session will take place next week for those interested, the only criteria being a positive attitude and “a bit of pep”.

STAG will once again welcome audiences to the Blackbox Theater with the intimate performance Ms Roberts said was “the perfect antidote” to the current societal climate.

Steel Magnolias captures the relationships we all need to get us through the tough times in our lives,” she said.

“It celebrates friendships, eccentricity, acceptance, and while the story is heartbreaking and sad, the play is also very, very funny – the characters are so well written.”

In an ode to steel magnolia‘s tagline, “delicate as magnolias, but as tough as steel”, the show will feature six leading women.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to cast strong, amazing women of all ages who know what life is, and allow our audiences to see us shine again – all while having a fabulous time back in the theater. “said Ms. Roberts.

The information evening for Steel Magnolias is Tuesday, June 28 at 7 p.m. at the Blackbox Theatre, 17 Wheeler St, Shepparton.

The auditions take place on Saturday July 2 at the theatre.

People are encouraged to register for auditions at the info night or online at www.stagtheatre.com
