WNCC Theater Arts to Present “The Furies,” Kicking Off Spring Performing Arts Season – Sterling Journal-Advocate
Western Nebraska Community College’s Theater Arts Program is set to begin the spring 2022 performing arts season with a performance of “The Furies” by Aeschylus February 25-27 at the Platte Valley Companies Performing Arts Center.
“The Furies” focuses on the pursuit, capture, and trial of Orestes for the murder of his mother. The story is the earliest recorded example of a trial by jury in Western history.
“It’s considered a classic Greek tragedy, but ends quite well for all parties,” said WNCC drama instructor Violette Briggs. “We are thrilled to bring this story to life and kick off the spring season.”
The show will premiere on Friday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Judy Chaloupka Theater. The Saturday show will follow, also at 7:30 p.m., and the Sunday matinee will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Tickets are available for purchase at wncc.edu/performingarts. General admission tickets are $10, student/senior/military tickets are $5. Group discounts (10+ tickets) are also available.
“The Furies” is the first of six shows scheduled for the spring semester. Patrick Newell and the Vocal Music Department will be featured at the annual Spring Gala April 1-2 at the Gering Civic Center. The Spring Band Concert will take place on April 24 at the Judy Chaloupka Theater, and the theater department will be back in action from April 29 to May 1 for the Spring Play. The month of May will include an honorary recital on May 7 for instrumental music students and the annual jump, jive and swing on May 8.
